Islamabad: The new PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir must work for peace and stability in the region including peace with Pakistan, a Pakistani newspaper said Friday.
“It (however) remains to be seen how fortuitous this union will be for the people of Kashmir,” the Daily Times said in an editorial.
After months of negotiations since the elections in Jammu and Kashmir produced a hung assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party have decided to form a coalition government.
“The BJP will need to step away from its Hindutva roots to govern this predominantly Muslim region, and both parties will have to compromise with each other and separatist elements,” the editorial said.
