New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia, in association with Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association (Delhi Chapter) organised a condolence meet for Saiyid Hamid, who passed away on December 29.
Addressing the condolence meet held on January 2, Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia said Hamid was an eminent educationist and distinguished bureaucrat, who not only shaped the growth of several prestigious institutions in the country but was also responsible for shaping the destinies of several young individuals from the minority community.

He went on to add that the concept of IAS coaching for the minority community was introduced by Hamid Sahab. The Vice-Chancellor, JMI also observed that Hamid would be remembered for his role in nurturing institutions of excellence, a release from Jamia’s media coordinator said.
A host of speakers both from Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association spoke at length on Hamid’s life and his contributions. They dwelt upon details in regard to his personal and professional life. Many of them underlined the versatility that contributed to Hamid’s personality and his strong capabilities as a scholar, linguist and administrator.
The speakers were – Prof Mohammad Iqbal, former Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, Prof Wahajuddin Alvi, head, Department of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia, Asim Azmi, former Advisor, Doordarshan, Engr Ahmad Rais Siddiqui, chief editor, Nadia Times, Prof Ishtiaq Danish, Asif Habib, managing director, Habsons Group, Irshad Ahamd, president and Mudassir Hayat, general secretary of AMU Old Boys’ Association.
The condolence meet was attended by the faculty members, staff and students of Jamia Millia Islamia, the release added.
