“Islam and the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teach us that providing help to the deprived is as much necessary as observing individual’s right. We consider it to be our (Jamiat’s) responsibility to find out the needy people and to help them. We do not consider one particular religion while extending help,” a content Maulana Qasmi said.

Jadhav, 27, was allegedly stabbed to death on October 22, 2014 by five persons, who were reportedly misbehaving with a woman in Pathan Wadi area of Malad. Jadhav had intervened to protest the four-five local goons’ molesting that woman. He was reportedly attacked with sharp weapons at his residence at Khot Dongari in Malad area late that night.

Five persons were later arrested.

Incidentally, the gesture by Jamiat comes days after it was labeled anti-national by a BJP MLA. During the recently concluded winter session of the Maharashtra assembly at Nagpur, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar had demanded a ban on Jamiat, known for its decades of social work, alleging it promotes ‘terrorism’ by providing legal assistance to terror accused.
