Guwahati: Congress has slammed BJP for working on spreading religious fanatics instead of working on the development in the country and misleading the people with all the fake promises.

“Now, people of the country have realised the hidden agenda of BJP, which is Hinduvta. They want to bring a division in the name of religion. The BJP had sought votes in the name of Modi across the country. Now Modi should stand and deliver and make his stand clear about the statements some of its leaders and RSS are giving on communal lines,” All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary CP Joshi, who is in Assam, said while taking part in a rally against the betrayal of the BJP led government in Guwahati on Saturday.

Joshi further stated that such communal activity of BJP is the biggest threat to Indian democracy. “What the people of India want is secularism and development. The BJP is working to spread the hatred between Hindu and Muslim instead of working to eradicate all the ill practices of the society. They should work in making a casteless society instead of bringing division,” Joshi added.

Joshi also targeted Modi over the ceasefire violations by Pakistan. “Where is your 56 inch chest now when everyday Pakistan is firing and killing Indian people from across the border?” He said the Prime Minister had promised before the last Lok Sabha elections that he would bring all black-money back to the country within 100 days of forming the government, but seven months have passed and “nothing has happened yet”.

On the usage of science and technology, Joshi said that it was the vision of Jawaharlal Nehru and Congress for which India stands to be a superpower now. “For development, we need policy and planning not religion. The brilliant students of the country who have excelled globally, some of whom are working in the Silicon Valley in US, could do so because they studied in IITs not because of offering puja in temple,” he said.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that BJP has several faces in the form of RSS, Bajrang Dal, VHP and others which has created social unrest for minorities and poor people.

“We might have bad days as we have seen earlier, but none can defeat us. Even the British had to bow down to our force. Today is the first meeting after the Lok Sabha polls. I’m really amazed to see the gathering. This indicates that the people have faith on the party,” Gogoi said.

Slamming the BJP for maintaining dual standard, Gogoi said that BJP has fooled the people of the state by false promises. “Now the people have realized that the BJP is a party of fake promises. They have two different colours. They have forgotten all the promises they made. Instead they have started to hijack our projects,” Gogoi said.
