New Delhi: Noted historian and former Jamia VC, Professor Mushirul Hasan is back on his feet and was finally discharged from hospital on Saturday evening. Prof Hasan was critically injured in a road accident on November 29, 2014 while on his way to Mewat, after which he was admitted at the private hospital in the capital. For weeks he was on ventilator and underwent multiple surgeries.

The 67-year-old Hasan was headed to Mewat to be the chief guest at a school when the accident occurred at around 11.00 am on November 29, Saturday. He had suffered serious injuries including multiple fractures and an injury to his head. At the Apollo Hospital, he underwent multiple surgeries under a team of neurosurgeons.
He also had a blood clot on the back of his head but doctors felt that they don’t have to perform any surgery immediately to remove it.
Zoya Hasan, an eminent Political Scientist and a professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University is Hassan’s wife. He had taken voluntary retirement in 2013, after his differences with the administration when he had alleged harassment and humiliation.
Author of several books, Prof Hasan also served as the Director General of the National Archives of India and was also conferred the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund in November 2014. In 2007, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India and the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Government in 2010.
