New Delhi: A group of angry demonstrators gathered outside the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) in the national capital registering their protest against famous evangelist Dr Zakir Naik, who was invited to deliver a speech on Quran and Science.
Those protesting demanded an explanation from the IICC office bearers need to explain why they invited Dr Naik, who according to them is divisive. Anjum Zaidi, one of the organisers of the protest said, “The Government of India did not give land for the centre to give a platform to such hate mongers,” Zaidi said.
The office bearers and supporters clerics mainly from Mashaikh Board, an organisation of Sufi Muslims also gathered at the IICC to lodge a protest. It should be mentioned here that the famous evangelist also has a channel called “Peace TV” to propagate Islam and has attracted controversies, mainly among followers of Sufi sects and Shia Muslims for his ‘extreme’ views.
Former Minister and columnist Arif Mohammad Khan also wrote a letter to IICC President Sirajuddin Qureshi against the invitation. Meanwhile, Zaidi also lodged a complaint at the Tughlaq Road Police Station.
