Former Uttar Pradesh top cop joins the BJP

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s former director general of police (DGP) Brijlal Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its primary member.

On joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, Brijlal targeted the Samajwadi party (SP) government for the failing law and order in the state.

Joining the party in the presence of state unit chief Laxmikant Bajpayi and in-charge of the party’s affairs in the state Om Mathur, Brijlal said he was inspired by the nationalistic and principled policies of the BJP and hence entering the saffron fold.

Brijlal, once very close to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, said political masters were intimidating police officials and the bureaucracy, and as a result the system had failed the people of the state, specially in controlling crimes and maintaining law and order.

Another official, Gyan Singh also joined the party.

Om Mathur said change of guard in the state has started and that the people who were fed up with the policies of other parties were flocking to the BJP.

Brijlal is acclaimed as a honest police official who initiated a slew of anti-criminal measures and was specially known for his anti-mafia operations.

He said he was in discussions with the BJP for over two months now. Sources said the former top cop of the state was also feeling slighted after the BSP chief refused to even meet him recently. Brijlal retired from the Indian Police Service recently.
