Mr and Mrs Jawadwala have been coming to Tea Centre, an old Brit-like cafe in South Bombay for more than fifteen years now, and whenever possible, sit at the same table, at one of the corners of the restaurant.

They come here every weekend, or any other day when they feel the need to celebrate, and aside from whatever else they may order, the Apple Butter Tea is always an accompaniment. The day I met them, Mr Jawadwala was in a cheery mood, saying that the one tension that he had, with regard to his garment business, was now gone. What was the tension, I asked, and he laughed it off. It’s gone now, he said, why to take tension?
