BJP team to probe woman’s burning in Barabanki

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party announced on Saturday that it will send a four-member fact finding team to Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district, where a 40-year-old woman was set on fire allegedly by two policemen on July 7.

“A four-member team having members of parliament Ashwini Coubey, Meenakshi Lekhi, M.J. Akbar and Arjun Ram Meghwal has been formed by president Amit Shah to probe the Barabanki incident,” BJP said in a press statement.

The team will visit Barabanki and submit its report to Shah. It will ascertain the law and order situation in the state, the statement added.

In a statement to a magistrate before her death, the woman accused a police inspector and a sub-inspector of first demanding bribe from her to let off her husband, brought in for questioning in a firing incident, then trying to sexually assault her, and on failing, setting her on fire.

Last month, a journalist in Shahjahanpur was set on fire allegedly by henchmen of a state minister.
