Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday congratulated Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza on winning her maiden women’s doubles title at a Grand Slam event.
The Hyderabadi clinched the Wimbledon crown pairing with Swiss veteran Martina Hingis.
In a statement here, the chief minister said Sania’s win will inspire other girls in the country.
Sania Mirza was last year appointed Telangana’s brand ambassador by the state government.
The chief minister said that before bagging the Grand Slam crown, she won three titles at major events.
Sania-Hingis pair beat Russian second seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7, 7-6(4), 7-5 in the final late on Saturday night.
