JIH, other NGOs, distribute Ramadan kits ahead of Eid

Bengaluru/Hyderabad/Coimbatore/Kolkata: In the holy month of Ramadan, various organisations including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and others, came forward to distribute Ramadan kits to the poor and needy with a prayer.

“In this blessed month of Ramadhan most of us, Alhamdulillah, have plenty to have in Suhoor and Iftar. But there are many in our surroundings who do not have this privilege. Keeping this in mind, the Mumbra chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has been distributing Ramadan ration kit amongst the poor and needy for past few years,” Parvez Khan of the media cell of JIH, Mumbra, said in a release.

JIH Mumbra distributed 360 kits this year, an increase of 20% from last year. Along with it 88 ladies dress and 150 kids wear were also distributed, the release said on July 11 and added, “With a sincere and dedicated team, we will Inshallah continue to strive to improve the socio-economic situation of Mumbra-Kausa.”

Similarly, JIH Coimbatore, which has in the past years organised distribution of Iftaar kits, distributed similar kits during this Ramadan worth Rs 1,000 for downtrodden families through its project Vision 2016. “JIH Coimbatore unit in the past week distributed these kits in the past week in various parts of the city, including Kasthuri Gardens at Pillayar Puram locality,” a release from M Abdul Hakkim, PRO, JIH, Coimbatore, said on July 13.

In Hubli city, the Zakat Foundation of America distributed about 200 Ramadan food packets to the widows, poor and the needy as part of its Ramadan Food Distribution 2015 programme. The distribution was conducted in Samudaya Bhawan, Chalukya Nagar, Gadag Road wherein each pack containing 55 ½ kgs worth Rs 4,000 each (comprising 25 kgs rice, 10 kgs wheat flour, 5 kgs of sugar, 3 kgs of daal, 5 litres of refined oil, 1 kgs of vermicelli, 1 kgs of tea powder, 1 kgs of dates, ½ kgs of other dry fruits and 1 kgs of ghee) was distributed to poor and downtrodden from localities of Islampur, Anand Nagar, Mantur Road, Gokul Road, Altaf plot, Ganeshpeth, Janatha Colony, Old Hubli, Nekar Nagar, Sadashiv Nagar, Dharwad, Kundugol village and other areas.

“Zakat Foundation of America working in North Karnataka since 2009, we are very grateful to the humble and generous donors for providing Ramadan food packs to the needy people. Projects including orphan sponsorship, seasonal Ramadan and Qurbani food distribution, health camps, charity programmes, women empowerment,” said Farda Khan, head of volunteers’ team and president AWWA NGO.

Affus Women Welfare Association (AWWA) organisation works for women and child development of the society.
Zakat Foundation of America volunteers also distributed Eid gifts to 50 sponsored children. The Eid gift consists of three items, Eid dress, slippers and a soft toy. “Without joy of the children, no Eid will be complete, to bring the real joy in children is why the humble donors sponsor Eid gifts,” she said.

The AWWA, also distributed 1700 food packets with basic food items to the most deserved and needy people of Hubli and Dharwad districts of Karnataka with the help of Germany based organisation Muslimehelfen. Similar packets were also distributed to needy people in Saidabad, Hyderabad of Telangana.

“Each food pack weighing 18 kgs worth Rs 774 each comprising 7 kgs rice, 5 kgs wheat flour, 2 kgs lentils, 2 kgs sugar, 1 kgs dates and 1 litre refined oil were distributed to poor and downtrodden people from the slum localities,” Khan said in a release.

Muslimehelfen Ramadan food packs were distributed in Hubli slum areas (300), Dharwad slum areas (450), Saidabad slum areas, Hyderbad (500) and old city of Hyderabad (450).

“Muslimehelfen also organised Iftaar dinner at 10 different locations in Hubli, Kundgole, Shiraguppi, Arlikatti and Tadas villages in north Karnataka and Malakpet in Hyderabad,” she added.

In Sunderban Island about 120 km from Kolkata, Iftaar feeds were distributed to the representatives of different Mosque and one Qurania madrassa on behalf of the Indian Muslim Relief Charities (IMRC) by Sahayata Trust of Hyderabad on Thursday, July 16 under the supervision of local activist Mohammad Abbasuddin Sarder.

These included few areas of Sunderban Island of South 24 Parganas of West Bengal; Kamarpara Jame Masjid; Gopalkata Jame Masjid, Pathankhali; Taltala Mollapara Jame Masjid, Pathankhali Sundarban Siddiquia Madrassa at the Pathankhali Delta Island; Gosaba Dulki Jame Masjid at Gosaba Delta Island and Sonakhali Hajir Chak Jame Masjid at Basanti Island of Sunderban, South 24 Parganas of West Bengal, according to a representative of IMRC.
