New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the three service chiefs, will receive the mortal remains of former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at the technical area of the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, an official said on Tuesday.
The body is scheduled to arrive at 12.30 p.m.
“The casket containing the mortal remains of Kalam will be taken from Palam to his residence in a gun carriage,” defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said.
However, the public can now pay homage to Kalam from 4 p.m. onwards instead of earlier scheduled time of 3 p.m. at 10 Rajaji Marg here.
“The last rites of the late president will be held at his native place in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu,” he tweeted.
The former president died on Monday in a private hospital in Shillong after he collapsed while delivering a lecture on “Liveable Planet” to students of the Indian Institute of Managment-Shillong.
