Five amongst first 10 happens to be Muslim girls

Patna: Marking a paradigm shift for the Muslim community, a Begusarai girl Shadma Khanam has topped the Intermediate Arts (IA) examination of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) by scoring highest 82%.
The Board declared results on Saturday that shows 23 toppers amongst 26 are girls, an extra ordinary display of excellence by girls completely overtaking boys. Khanam, a Laduara town girl, studied from C A B S College at Khamhar and emerged first in the list whereas Rupa Kumari stood second.

What is more encouraging for the Muslims is that the first 10 include five from the community, a fact that may help other girls from the community to pursue higher education.
Apart from Shadma, who got the first position, Ishrat Bano got fourth position. Shama Khatoon got seventh position, Nazia Sultana got eighth position and Shama Parveen occupied 10th rank in Intermediate Arts (IA) examination of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB).
The BSEB officials, according to a Times of India report said, altogether 4,88,628 students, including 1,96,914 boys, had appeared for the exam. Of these, 61,125 students failed. Results of over 4,400 students are pending. At least 30.06% students fetched first division; that’s a significant increase of over 12% from last year. Among the districts, Jamui scored the maximum pass percentage of 96.89%.
