Lucknow: Former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was on Wednesday taken to Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on way to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Faizabad for the probe into his alleged fake law degree, police said.
A Delhi police team brought along the arrested minister on board the AC Express. After a brief stay at Charbagh railway station, the police team and Tomar boarded the Farakka Express for their onward journey to Faizabad.
Tomar was earlier scheduled to be taken to Faizabad by road, but presence of Aam Aadmi Party workers at the railway station forced police to change the travel plan at the last minute. They boarded a ladies compartment of Farakka Express for the onward journey.
The AAP leader told reporters here that he was “framed” by the Narendra Modi government in the case, and that he was innocent.
“I have done no wrong and am a victim of a political conspiracy,” the former Delhi law minister claimed.
Tomar, arrested by Delhi police on Tuesday, is currently in four-day police remand.
Meanwhile, RML Avadh university officials said a probe into the genuineness of Tomar’s degree in the wake of a Right to Information (RTI) query allegedly found it to be “fake”.
Univeristy media in-charge S.N. Shukla said the degree as shown by Tomar was fake, and added that the probe found that the roll number 31331 in 1988 was allotted to another student, and no9t to Tomar.
