Chennai : DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Thursday urged party men to add “unity” as the fourth principle of the party after duty, dignity and discipline.
Speaking at the party’s executive committee meeting, Karunanidhi urged the party men to maintain unity among themselves to win the elections and take forward the community.
“After duty, dignity and discipline (the party’s three basic principles) add unity-unity in the party- as the fourth word and resolve to maintain that,” Karunanidhi said.
He called upon the party men to forget the differences that would have arisen among them during the recently concluded internal elections and work together not only to win the polls but also take forward the society.
Karunanidhi urged them to practice the principle of brotherhood.
In an indirect dig at the BJP without naming it, Karunanidhi said a North Indian party is trying to expand its base in Tamil Nadu promising to promote Tamil.
“Some media houses are here to support the North Indian party and their target is to slay the DMK. But the DMK cannot be destroyed,” he said.
Earlier, the party passed resolutions urging the BJP-led central government to stick to its poll promises of protecting the poor and the middle class and protect secularism; condemning the AIADMK-led state government for Tamil Nadu’s economic slide.
