‘Politics of Genocide’ conference held at Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Advocate Y K Shabana of Mumbai-based Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights (CPDR) inaugurated the People’s Defence Meeting held here on the theme of ‘Politics of Genocide’.

The programme was organised by Citizen Rights Protection Group at Gandhi Park here on March 2.

In her inaugural speech, Shabana said: “Modi government is regularly incarcerating innocent dalits and Muslims in the name of fighting against religious extremism and Maoism. So many women were made scapegoats in the genocide in Gujarat, Mumbai etc. Lots of children were also affected. Human rights activists are being hunted. Communal virus has also deliberately being injected into young children.”

Dr J Devika said those who are vociferous against Charlie Hebdo attack (Paris, January attack) are keeping mum against Tuneri in Kerala. “Islamophobia is waging incessantly. This is evident everywhere in the world. More than 150 Muslim houses were attacked. Why do cultural activists have not raised their voice?” she asked.

Reni Eilin of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO) chaired the conference.

R B Sreekumar, former Gujarat DGP; Professor P Koya, vice chairman, PFI; A S Ajithkumar, music director; Gopal Menon, documentary director; Sabu Kottarakkara, P D P; Advocate K P Muhamad, Jamaath Federation; Nikhil Iqbal, Solidarity; Karaman Salim, P F I; P K Abdul Rahman, Minority Rights Watch; Abdul Majeed Nadwi, Minority Rights Watch and Dr Abdussalam spoke on the occasion.

There was a music and drama concert presented by Kannada Tamil Iyakkam. The programme committee chairman was Advocate S Shanavas of Minority Rights Watch.
