Uproar in Odisha assembly over question paper leak

Bhubaneswar : The Odisha assembly on Monday witnessed a ruckus over the leak of a question paper that led to the cancellation of the written test for recruitment of police constables.

While the opposition Congress demanded an inquiry into the question paper leak for the examination that got cancelled on Sunday, the BJP sought resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who also holds the home portfolio.

As soon as the house assembled, Congress members rushed near the speaker’s podium seeking a statement from the chief minister over the issue.

The speaker was forced to adjourn the house several times.

The opposition legislators rejected the government’s announcement of a crime branch probe into the question paper leak.

“How can police probe the misdeeds of other police officers accused of leaking the question papers? There should be an impartial probe to find the actual truth,” said Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra.

He alleged that some high-ranking police officers were part of the racket that sold question papers in the market.

BJP legislature party leader Basant Panda said the chief minister should resign.

Meanwhile, the government ordered a crime branch probe into the question leak.

In a statement in the assembly, Patnaik said the crime branch has been asked to investigate the matter and strong action would be taken against those involved.
