New Delhi: The patriotism of religious minorities in India cannot be questioned, Home Minister Rajnath Singh declared on Monday, and stated that only the Narendra Modi government can ensure their security.
“We cannot question the patriotic sentiments of the minority communities,” Rajnath Singh told the media at the 10th annual conference of state minorities commissioners here.
“One can very well serve India while continuing to pursue his religion,” he added.
The home minister said the central government was “committed to instill a sense of security among minorities”. It was “the greatest challenge” before any government, he added.
Rajnath Singh said India was the only country where all religions of the world are found and practiced.
Assuring all possible help on his part, Rajnath Singh urged the participants to debate the disturbing issues with an open mind and suggest practical ways for harmonious coexistence.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said India’s democracy provides the weakest citizen a chance not only to survive but thrive irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla said religions may be many but faith is one.
Among practitioners of various religions, mutual respect and understanding was of utmost importance for growth and development of all and resultant development of the nation, she said.
Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was also present on the occasion and he assured to take development to the last member of the minority society.
