Urdu should be linked with country and not any religion: Brig Syed Ahmad Ali

Aligarh: Urdu languages is spoken and used in many parts of India and that Urdu should not be linked with religion but with the country, Brig Syed Ahmed Ali, Pro Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), said here.

He was the chief guest at a seminar organized by Committee on Urdu Language and Jobs in India constituted by the Ministry of HRD, government of India, on Monday, March 23, a release said here.

He gave an example to support his statement as he said, as many as 17 Urdu dailies, including Hind Samachar of Punjab Kesari group, are published from Jalandhar in Punjab where the percentage of Muslims is very low.

He further said, to get good employment, one must get education in Hindi and English languages apart from Urdu and should also get knowledge of regional languages. He said that he hopes that the Committee will develop Urdu on national level like it has been developed at the AMU.

Dr Shabistan Gaffar, the guest of honour, said the meeting of the Committee was very fruitful and many important decisions were taken and strategy for future chalked out. Stating that she has worked on a project in Jammu and Kashmir, she said, “that project provided opportunities of employment by linking Urdu with computers. Regional languages are being encouraged in south India.”

Presiding over the Seminar, member of Committee Professor Razaullah Khan, said “First we should teach Urdu to our children and later it must be linked with employment.”

Welcoming the members and guests, Dr Jasim Mohammad, secretary of Committee said Urdu had played a vital role during freedom struggle but presently status of Urdu is very low. “This Committee constituted under Chairmanship of Brig Syed Ahmed Ali will prepare a strategy for making job opportunities available to Urdu speaking people,” he said.
