Jammu : Pandemonium marred the proceedings of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly on Friday as opposition National Conference (NC) members gathered near the speaker’s podium amid slogan shouting and noise.
As the house convened on Friday morning, NC members started shouting slogans against the Mufti Muhmmad Sayeed government as they displayed copies of a local newspaper report carried on Friday saying the central government had denied financial support to the state for wresting the ownership of NHPC-run hydro-power projects.
The NC legislators refused to follow directions from the speaker to allow normal proceedings of the house as former chief minister Omar Abdullah led the protests inside the house.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta then ordered the marshals to remove the agitating legislators but they clashed with the staff while being evicted from the house.
NC legislator Abdul Majid sustained injuries during the scuffle with the security staff.
The speaker later adjourned the house till 3 p.m.
The Common Minimum Programme worked out by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-Peoples Democratic Party oalition includes central support to the state government so that the NHPC owned and run hydro power projects are transferred to state government.
