131st birth anniversary of Barrister Mohammad Yunus, first chief minister, celebrated in Bihar

Patna: The Bihar government celebrated the 131st birth anniversary of Barrister Mohammad Yunus, the first chief minister of Bihar on Monday.

Mohammad Yunus was born on May 4, 1884 in Panhara village under Patna district. He had formed the government in Bihar on April 1, 1937 and became the first democratically elected leader of Bihar. His government was not only the first democratic government of Bihar but also in whole of the Indian subcontinent. Mohammad Yunus studied in Patna and Britain. He started politics with Congress but later in 1936 formed Muslim Independent Party with Maulana Sajjad.

Cabinet department of the Bihar government had arranged the programme at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, a release said here.

The programme started with cultural programme presented local artists. Then the audience has been told about the life and works of Mohammad Yunus. Shravan Kumar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister of the government of Bihar was the chief guest. Daud Ali, MLA, Dumraon and Arun Manjhi, MLA, Masaurhi also attended the programme. Also, the guests also paid floral tribute to Mohammad Yunus.

Mohammad Kashif Yunus, chairman, Barrister Mohammad Yunus Memorial Committee (BMYMC), Homa Yunus, secretary, BMYMC, Baber Yunus, Ashhar Yunus also attended the programme.

Many leaders and cadres of the Congress party also attended the programme. Minnat Rahmani, chairman, Minority Cell, Bihar Pradesh Congress committee, Harun Rashid, Congress leader from Arwal district, were among those attended the programme. Social activist Reyaz Atish, Dr M Q Jauhar, Manzurulhaque also attended the programme, the release added.
