Mild tremors felt in Odisha

Bhubaneswar : Mild tremors were felt around 12.35 p.m. in various parts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday. This led to people rushing out of their homes and offices to safer places. The tremors were also felt in Ganjam, Kendrapada and Rourkela.

“We along with other officials felt the tremors at about 12.35 p.m. We immediately ran through staircases to reach safer places,” said Nihar Ranjan Patnaik, higher education director.

“Mild tremors were felt in Odisha, while the epicentre was about 825 km away from the state. The aftershocks may continue following the earthquake,” said Bhubaneswar’s Met department director Sarat Sahu.

The temblor caused panic among people, who had already felt jolts during the earthquake that caused devastation in Nepal and northern India on April 25. Incidentally, this time too, the earthquake was massive, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale and struck 68 km west of the Namche Bazaar, close to Mount Everest.

The tremors were also felt in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam and West Bengal.
