New Delhi : The BJP on Wednesday demanded the arrest of Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar for allegedly furnishing fake provisional certificate of his law degree and holding a fake graduate degree as well.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay demanded Tomar’s arrest and an FIR against him following the Bar Council of Delhi’s complaint against the minister.
“We want Delhi Police to register a first information report (F.I.R) against the law minister and take appropriate actions according to the law. Tomar should be arrested now,” he said.
“Bar Council of Delhi’s cognizance of Jitender Singh Tomar says that the degrees are fake. We want to question if more such degrees exist?” Upadhyay told reporters in a press conference here.
The BJP leader also questioned the reason behind Delhi Police not taking any appropriate action so far.
“Why police are not taking action even after the complaint and the response of the universities that documents submitted by Tomar for his enrolment as an advocate are forged?” he asked.
“Police should not work under anybody’s pressure,” he said.
“The fake government of Delhi and its fake ministers need to be exposed,” Upadhyay said.
The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) had filed a police complaint against Tomar, seeking probe into his alleged fake law degree case.
In his complaint letter written to District Commissioner of Police, Hauz Khas, Prem Nath, Secretary, BCD, Puneet Mittal had said the bar council had observed that Tomar had enrolled himself in the council as an advocate by misrepresenting the facts as both the universities stated that the documents were forged.
The complaint letter said Tomar had claimed to have obtained a graduation degree from Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Avadh University, Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, which the aforesaid university claimed to be forged.
Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur in Bihar said that the provisional L.L.B certificate bearing serial number 3687, submitted by Tomar at the time of his enrolment, is a fabricated document, the complaint letter stated.
