Document leak: Court tells police to give papers to accused

New Delhi : A court here on Monday directed Delhi Police to supply documents to the accused in the case relating to the leak of documents from the petroleum ministry.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal directed police to supply the documents related to the chargesheet and slated the matter for July 4 for further hearing.

Meanwhile, the judicial custody of the five accused – Lalta Prasad and Rakesh Kumar, both brothers and residents of Delhi, Ghaziabad resident Rajkumar Chaubey, and government employees Asharam and Ishwar Singh – was extended till the same date.

Police filed the chargesheet in the case last month and formally charged 13 people under various sections dealing with cheating, forgery, trespass, theft, common intent and criminal conspiracy.

The other eight accused, including five corporate executives and former journalist Santanu Saikia, are out on bail.

Delhi Police had registered a first information report about the leak of classified documents related to various ministries, including those of petroleum and natural gas, on February 17.
