Modi government failed to deliver in first year: Congress

New Delhi : The Congress on Monday criticised the BJP-led NDA government for “doing nothing except making promises and announcements” in past one year, and for falling short on various promises it made before coming to power.

Comparing the working style of the central government with that of the three formats of cricket matches – T-20, One-day and Tests – Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told a press conference here the Narendra Modi government failed to deliver on all fronts.

“They are in T-20 mode when it comes to making promises and talking about good things. Similarly, if they have to make announcements about certain things, they would come down to One-day cricket match mode, and when it comes to actually doing something on ground then it’s a condition of abandoned Test match,” Singhvi said.

Talking about the central government’s plan to clean Ganga river, he said the prime minister had promised that he would get the river cleaned in one year but nothing concrete had been done till date.

“The prime minister said that he would get the work done in just one year. Then Uma Bharti said she would do it in three years, and finally, the Supreme Court, observing the pace of work, in September last year said that going by the speed of the work of cleaning the Ganga was on, it would take another 200 years to complete the work,” Singhvi said.

On health, business, agriculture and other fronts too, the Congress leader criticised the Modi government and said it make lots of false promises and mislead people.

“Export has gone down. It was announced that 250 million jobs would be created,” he said, asking: “How are you going to do it when only a very small number of jobs were managed in the past one year of your governance.”

Singhvi also said the Congress is not a party which just makes promises and does nothing.
