Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar, the organisation’s general secretary in a statement here on Tuesday alleged that the move was initiated in a bid to take away the present reservation of 27 %, ensured for OBCs as per the recommendations of the Mandal Commission.

Kanthapuram alleged that the move was aimed at denying the due rights for the backward countries in the country. “The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) seeks the government to replace the present mode of reservation with the reservation proportionate to the backwardness. The report, recently submitted to the government, recommends to categorise the OBCs on the basis of social backwardness as well as the economic backwardness. This will lead to lose the present rights accorded to various communities,” his statement said.

“Instead of categorising OBCs to various sub groups, the government should ensure reservation, accorded by the Constitution to all sects belong to OBC,” the statement demanded.

It further added that presently several sects are denied the privileges of reservation owing to the categorisation of creamy layer and non-creamy layer. The statement also exhorted the OBCs to be up in arms against the move and come forward to oppose the move.
