Civic bodies not serious about curbing air pollution: Sisodia

New Delhi : Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday accused the three BJP-ruled municipal corporations in the national capital of not making “serious efforts” to curb air pollution.

“The three municipal corporations (north, south, east) which cover majority of the areas of Delhi have still not made serious efforts in preventing burning and recovery of compensation since majority of parks fall in their jurisdiction,” Sisodia said.

The National Green Tribunal on April 28 imposed a blanket ban on burning of waste, including garbage, leaves, plastic etc., in the open to keep a check on air pollution levels.

Sisodia directed all corporations and local bodies to display their helpline numbers for lodging complaints pertaining to burning of garbage in the open.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, responsible for checking dust emission from under-construction sites measuring over 20,000 square metres, has issued notice to 172 builders for violating norms.
