Mumbai: In the wake of controversy surrounding rejection of job application of a Muslim MBA graduate by a leading diamond firm, city unit of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has decided to employ at least 10 non-Muslims candidates as a mark of protest against the incident.

In a press conference held here on Saturday, IUML condemned the incident of job discrimination to Zeshan Ali Khan due to his religion and said that their party’s members will protest in Gandhian way by employing Non Muslims at their own workplaces, companies and shops.

Indian Union Muslim League city president Parvez S Lakdawala said that the initiative aims at maintaining communal harmony in the city and to teach such communal mindset companies a lesson peacefully by adopting ‘Gandhigiri’.

“Ten non-Muslim aspirants will be immediately employed in my company and those owned by many Muslims in the city. It is to awaken the conscience of those companies and firms who practice absurd and divisive discrimination in recruitment,” said Lakdawala.

He said his party has decided not to protest on the streets against the injustice to Khan, but denounce it through “Gandhigiri.”

“India’s integrity lies in its pluralism while discrimination endangers country’s secular fabric and hinders the growth of every section of the society”, he added.

He also said that his organization has written to the diamond export company Hari Krishna Export Limited that discriminated job to Khan due to his religion asking for details of 10 Non Muslim candidates whom it has rejected or dismissed from job so that they can be provided with immediate job by his organization.

Meanwhile, another Muslim organization All India Milli Council (AIMC) on Saturday wrote a letter addressed to the prime minister, the chief minister and the National Commission for Minorities demanding that the license of the diamond firm that allegedly denied a job to a Muslim youth on the basis of his religion be impounded.

The whole country was taken by surprise on May 19 when an aspiring MBA graduate from Muslim community was rejected job by a leading diamond export company based in Mumbai on the grounds of his religion.

Khan has filed FIR under Section 153 B (1) (b) (c) of the Indian Penal Code against the diamond firm, the section deals with hurting religious sentiments, denying or depriving a person his rights and causing disharmony.
