The agency will draft a scheme to protect the child rights for which all religious organisations will be brought under the project and awareness on child rights will be spread through them.

Childline has already held discussions with the representatives of various Muslim organizations such as Sunni, Mujahid, Jama’at, students’ wings, youth wings, etc. and will be discussing about the possibilities with the leaders of Hindu and Christian organisations.

“Considering the effectiveness of religious organisations in influencing the public, we have planned to use them for disseminating information on child rights. By including discussions on child rights and the importance of protecting them along with devotional speeches in the religious organizations, we are aiming to create awareness on it among the public,” said Childline district coordinator Muhammadali M P.

“Besides, Childline representatives will also be presenting statistics on atrocities against children and will also discuss other issues such as child marriage and will also be taking part in creating awareness at venues arranged by religious institutions, as part of the project,” he added. “All the Muslim organisations have responded positively and we will be giving training to Madrassa teachers on children’s rights who will in turn provide awareness to parents,” he adds.

District collector N Prashanth inaugurated the meeting with the Muslim organisations’ representatives earlier last week. The discussions with the Hindu and Christian organisations’ representatives will be held in June, followed by a meeting with the coordinators of all religious organisations.
