New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the AAP government was answerable to the people who had certain expectations from them and not from the lt. governor.
Kejriwal accused Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung of “dancing to the tunes of the Centre” and asked the central government and Jung to “stop conspiring against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government”.
The chief minister said that by issuing the notification on the lt. governor’s powers, the Narendra Modi government was taking the country towards dictatorship.
“We had made promises to the people and they have certain expectations from us, not from the lt. governor,” Kejriwal told the Delhi assembly on the second day of its special session.
“We are answerable to the people, hence we must have the right to appoint our officials,” he said.
Lashing out at the lt. governor on the issue of appointments and transfers of bureaucrats, Kejriwal said: “The lt. governor has never asked me about the electricity situation in Delhi, but he is very interested in transfers and postings.”
A tussle erupted earlier this month between Kejriwal and Jung over the appointment of senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as acting chief secretary.
