Modi government eliminated political corruption at top: Shah

Panaji : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has eliminated political corruption in high office, BJP president Amit Shah said on Thursday.

He addressed a press conference here as part of the first year anniversary celebrations of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

Shah said the fact that the opposition could not point out a single scam in last one year showed that Modi was heading a corruption-free government.

“We had made a promise to the people that we would eliminate corruption at the top and slowly create systems to eliminate corruption at the bottom too. If we look back for a year, BJP’s Modi government has eliminated political corruption at the top,” Shah said.

“For 10 years, the UPA government ran in such a manner that every minister of the government was the prime minister of his department. And no one respected the poor prime minister. There were extra-constitutional power centres. No one knew how the government was working,” he said.

Under Modi, Shah said, the affairs of the government were streamlined and made more efficient.

“The BJP has restored the pride of the Prime Minister’s Office,” Shah said.

Asked about the delay in filling up vacancies for the posts of Chief Vigilance Commissioner and Chief Information Commissioner as well as setting of the Lokpal, Shah said a joint parliamentary committee consisting of members from both Houses was deliberating the legislation.

“As far as CIC and CVC goes, the Supreme Court had asked for a panel (of names), which we have submitted. It has been approved and returned back. A meeting for both appointments was conducted (recently) and after preliminary discussion the appointments will be done,” Shah said.
