Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee will become the first West Bengal Chief Minister to attend Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Hind’s conference on November 26, to be held in the state capital as the state’s largest Muslim organisation looks to discuss a host of issues, including upholding the country’s secularism and uplifting the Muslims of the state.

The conference, to be held at the Shahid Minar Maidan, will also discuss a host of other issues like the situation in the Middle East, communal harmony, the Dadri lynching along with seeking reservations for minorities and ways to counter terrorism.
Commenting on the CM attending the conference, Jamiat State Secretary Maulana Siddiqullah said, “Jamiat is a non political organisation. Any person, regardless of their social, religious and political background can participate in the Conference.”

He also pointed out that in previous conferences, Swami Agnivesh, CPI (M) leader Biman Basu, Congress leader Somen Mitra had been present, while in Hyderabad, the CM of Andhra Pradesh R S Reddy was present at Jamiat Meeting and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram had attending the Jamiat meeting held in Deoband..
Siddiqullah also said that unlike the BJP, Mamata Banerjee had been trying her best to stop the communal activities. He added that after 34 years of the Left Front Government, Muslims of the state are now progressing in the field of education and other sector.
