New Delhi : The Communist Party of India-Marxist on Wednesday called for passing a resolution in parliament to condemn the rising intolerance and communal polarisation in the country.
CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury said his notice to Rajya Sabha chairperson Hamid Ansari on adopting a resolution on the issue in the house had been accepted.
“On the issue of rising intolerance and communal polarisation, I gave a notice that has been accepted by the Rajya Sabha chairperson. It is a one-line resolution,” he said.
“The house should pass a resolution to condemn growing intolerance. We call upon the union government to implement the law of the land to ensure hate speeches and polarisation are put to an end,” Yechury said after attending an all-party meeting in the parliament complex.
Yechury said: “The government has said they are prepared for a resolution which everybody accepts. If they accept it, then we have no issues. It depends on the attitude of the government….”
“We will also raise the issues of price rise, high prices of pulses, Swachh Bharat cess, oil prices, decrease in industrial production, agricultural issues and farmers’ suicide during the winter session of parliament. We’ve also proposed for a new law for social justice in the country,” the leftist leader said.
