IMRC sponsors one year school fees of 1400 flood affected students in Kashmir

Srinagar : US based charity organisation Indian Muslim Relief and Charities (IMRC), in a noble initiative, started the process of paying one year fees of flood affected students of Kashmir valley.

Around 1400 deserving students were identified in a phased manner with the help of schools, Mohallah Committee and Masjid Committee.

“After the 2014 floods, many families living in the Kashmir valley lost their businesses which forced their children to stop their education,” Kashmir based IMRC Volunteer, Syed Tabassum Geelani told, adding, “To help them continue their studies, IMRC came forward to sponsor their one year tuition fees.”

We identified poor and flood affected students up to 10th standard by getting their details from schools, Mohallah Committee, Masjid Committee and our other volunteers did their ground work so that the amount reaches to really deserving ones, he further informed.

The one year academic fee of students is being directly credited to the respective school bank accounts by IMRC with the help of their Hyderabad sister organisation Sahayata Trust.

So far, half of the annual tuition fees of 700 students out of 1400 have already been deposited by IMRC into the bank accounts of 40 schools out of identified 70 and rest are under process.

“We had identified around 1400 most deserving students from different districts of the valley. These 1400 students were studying in 70 schools. We made list of students according to their schools and as of now 18 lakh has been credited to 40 schools as a part of flood affected students tuition fee scheme,” Tabassum informed further, adding that the rest of the money too would soon be credited in respective schools’ bank accounts.

IMRC volunteers have been on the ground from the first few days of the September 2014 flood, providing immediate relief materials and later distributing blankets, etc during winter. It also distributed food kits during Ramadan and helped several poor and needy regain their livelihood.

Besides running schools and colleges they have been at the forefront of providing immediate relief to affected victims of the 2014 Kashmir Floods, 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, 2012 Assam riots, and other natural/man-made calamities, the statement added.
