Mumbai: All India Majlis-E- Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Waris Pathan has demanded Toyota Service Centre to compensate the family of Muhammad Yaqub Shaikh and to extend all possible help in investigation and arrest all accused for brutally killing him at centre’s premises.
Shaikh, who worked as a cleaner in a Toyota Service Centre, was murdered on the afternoon of September 29, when highly-pressurized air was allegedly inserted into his body through his anus by a colleague after arguments over Qurbani.
Police have registered a case under section 302 of IPC and so far have arrested one person, Santosh Arekar.
Aggrieved with police’s lackadaisical approach in investigation and an apparent attempt to cover up the incidence of ‘hate crime’, family of Shaikh approached MIM MLA from Byculla and requested for intervention to get justice.
Pathan on Thursday met the family of Shaikh and took them to office Toyota along with his supporters protesting against centre’s apathetic response to the family after murder of Shaikh who was its employee and submitted a memorandum to General Manager with several demands.
He alleged that Shaikh was murdered while on duty and by employees of the company, in a conspiracy and cover up, the company should compensate his family who has lost a lone bread winner. The AIMIM political activists also raised slogans with their demands and condemning the crime.
“Even after such a serious and unfortunate incidence in your premises, it has been noted that you have not taken the matter seriously and no enquiries have been initiated from your side nor have you taken any action against the main culprits for reasons best known to you,” says the letter handed over to General Manager.
Questioning Toyota Centre’s silence over the murder, Pathan also writes, “It is very obvious from the nature of the crime that no person can commit this type of act single handedly, but so far only one person has been arrested and a case has been filed against him but why is the company shielding other culprits? Why are others not being charged or arrested? These are certain questions which remain unanswered.”
Pathan also urged Toyota Centre to immediately initiate inquiry, find the actual cause of the crime, nail all the culprits involved and take strong action by filing a strong police complaint against them.
Besides this, he also demanded the service centre to provide full compensation for the family as the deceased was on duty when he was brutally murdered by his colleagues in the company premises.
He also sent a copy of this letter to Commissioner of Police Mumbai and Senior Police Inspector, Kalachowky Police Station.
As he headed protesters to the Toyota Centre at Sewree, ACP Madhukar Sankhe arrived at the scene along with about a hundred policemen to control the protesters. Sankhe personally assured MLA Waris Pathan that all the accused would be arrested and an inquiry would be conducted again.
