NHRC notice to Lucknow Railway Police over girl’s gangrape

Lucknow: Taking cognizance of reports of a teenager’s alleged gangrape at Charbagh Railway Station here, the NHRC has issued notice to the Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police, Lucknow, and sought a report within two weeks.

The 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped on a deserted terrace of the busy Charbagh Railway Station on August 16. She was later dumped in a Malda-bound train with serious injuries.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) felt that if the contents of the media report were true, they raised a serious issue of violation of human rights of the girl victim.

The victim was reportedly found by police when she reached Patna by Farakka Express.

The girl was then medically examined and her statement was recorded before the magistrate and the incident was conveyed to Lucknow’s Railway Police.

Though five of the six accused and a woman, with whom the girl was staying in Lucknow, have been arrested, another person remains missing.
