A new vernacular daily launched in Manipur

Imphal: A new vernacular daily, titled Ichel Express, was launched by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on September 9 here. The daily is being published by Ichel Group.

The launching programme was held at the office of the news-paper at Hafiz Hatta. The grand function was attended by President of All Manipur Working Journalists Union W. Shamjai, Minister (Commerce and Industries) K. Govindas, Minister (Agriculture) Md. Abdul Nasir, Parliamentary Secretary (MOBC) and Chairman, Manipur State Haj Committee Md. Amin Shah, Chairperson, Manipur State Minorities Commission A. Helim Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner (Imphal East) M. Joy and Chairman of Ichel Group Md. Jalaluddin Shah as the Chief Guest, President and Guests of Honour respectively.

Addressing the large gathering, Deputy CM Gaikhangam said media plays a significant role in democracy. It also plays a vital role in bringing peace and development in the society and serves as a bridge between the government and the general public. It could break and mend society, he added.

He further said media and media-persons of the state have been playing a crucial role in bringing the state in the right track.

He wished the Ichel Group success in its endeavour and expressed hope that the new morning daily also takes a responsible role towards the society.


First issue of Ichel Express

Gaikhangam unveiled the commemorative plaque and inspected the news-room, off-set machine and other sections of the newspaper office.

Later he launched the website of the paper www.ichelexpress.org.

The first issue of the new-paper hits news-stands on September 10.
