Riyadh: At least 65 people were killed after a crane collapsed on to the Grand Mosque in the Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Makkah, which is preparing for the Annual Haj pilgrimage, authorities said.
At least 65 people have been killed and at least 80 injured, reported the BBC, citing the Saudi civil defence authority.
According to BBC, exact details were not known but it said images on social media appeared to show part of a huge crane had crashed through the mosque roof.
Makkah, the holiest cities for Islam, is preparing for the annual Haj, for which hundreds of thousands of Muslims are expected to arrive from all over the world later in September.
