On Saturday he has conferred with the “K. Veeramani Award for social justice” by the U.S.-based Periyar International organisation . After receiving the award he said that job reservation for dalit Muslims and dalit Christians should be given at par with dalit Hindus.

Kumar said, “Time has come to give reservation to SCs among Muslims and Christians – long deprived of reservation for their religious affiliations”.

Kumar also came out in support of upping the reservation cap beyond 50% to give job quota to other deprived sections of society. “If Tamil Nadu has 69% reservation, it can be done in the entire country. It can always be done through a constitutional amendment,” he emphasized. He also sought a job quota in private sector similar to the government sectors.

“Any law can be changed as per present requirement,” Kumar said adding, “In this era of economic liberalization, if reservation is not given in private sector, then it will be a mockery of social justice.”
