Jamod (Buldhana): Curfew is imposed at Jamod village in Buldhana district of Maharashtra after members of two communities indulged into stone pelting and nine persons were injured, two of them seriously.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when members of one community were collecting eatables from households for their distribution as prasad marking the culmination of Ram Navmi.
They were raising slogans to which members of another community who were observing funeral procession of
Mukaddar Khan’s mother objected resulting into stone pelting between the groups.
The incident forced police to fire shots in the air and impose curfew in some areas to bring situation under control.
“Trouble started when a tractor distributing prasad was stopped by some people,” police inspector Vijay Patkar told PTI.
The curfew was imposed on Saturday night, however, before its imposition number of vehicles, shops and public property was burned by the infighting groups. There are reports that groups have even damaged worship places of each other’s communities.
Some police officials – Solanke, Subhash Waghmare, Bhushan Solanke, Gajanan Narute, Kailash Pandit and Deepak Sapkal got injured in the stone pelting.
Local police have filed FIR (154/2016) against 111 people out of which 89 have been rounded up. The case is booked under sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 395, 353,307, 324, 332, 435, 295 and 186 IPC, 3(25), 4(25) of Indian Arms Act, 3 and 4 of Damage to Public Property Act.
Waseem Ahmad, 29, a resident of Buldhana told TwoCircles.net, “We are trying to talk with our relatives from Jamod to know the present situation but we are not able to talk with them. None of the phones from Jamod is getting connected, seems for measures police have disrupted phone lines”.
“We saw police bringing some people in police van to Buldhana court. We do not know whether these accused are of only on community”, he added.
One another local Mudassir, 32, a wedding card maker told TwoCircles.net, “I had called my client in Jamod to tell him that cards are ready but he told me that the town is under communal tension and prayer mats of one of the mosque is burned by the mob. Thereafter his phone is out of coverage”.
Local media reports that the situation is totally under control but curfew is still continuing in Jamod.
