New Delhi : The Standing Committee for Finance on Thursday decided to call the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor and a top finance ministry official to review the situation in the country following the government’s demonetisation move.
“RBI governor Urjit Patel and Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das would be called most likely on December 15 to review the situation in the country following the demonetisation move. The decision was taken unanimously by all the members of the committee,” said an informed source.
“If not on December 15, they will be called depending on their availability,” he added.
The Standing Committee for Finance is headed by Congress leader M. Veerappa Moily.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will be demonetised from midnight. Subsequently, there has been a cash crunch across the country.
