New Delhi: The Jat community will get reservation in government jobs and a draft legislation will be brought in the next session of the Haryana assembly in this regard, a senior leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party said on Sunday.
BJP leader Anil Jain, who is in charge of the party affairs in Haryana, made the announcement after a meeting of central ministers, party leaders and leaders of the Jat community and khaps with Home Minister Rajnath Singh here.
“It has been decided that in the coming assembly session, Jat reservation will be given in Haryana. In this regard, the government will bring a bill,” he told reporters here.
“In case of the Centre, a high-power committee will be announced which will be headed by a senior union minister,” he added.
At least 10 people have been killed and 150 injured in violence linked to the pro-quota agitation by the Jat community in Haryana.
Thousands of people continued to suffer as the violent agitation continued for the eighth day on Sunday. The agitation paralysed life in the entire state, as well as blocked railways and highways, cutting off all northern states from Delhi.
