Naqvi accuses Congress of blocking afforestation bill

New Delhi : Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday accused the Congress of blocking the CAMPA Bill and said it has obstructed works related to the nation’s development and reforms due to its “negative approach and feudal mindset”.

The CAMPA Bill seeks to create a Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) and a Compensatory Afforestation Fund (CAF).

“The Congress has blocked the development of Dalits, tribals and weaker sections by creating hurdle in passage of several important bills in parliament for the last several sessions,” Naqvi said here in a statement.

He said that if the CAMPA Bill is passed, the states will get Rs 42,000 crore for afforestation work on war-footing and this becomes more important keeping in view the ongoing monsoon.

“Had the bill been passed, various states could have got Rs 42,000 crore immediately, which includes Odisha (Rs 5,996 crore), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 1,314 crore), Uttarakhand (Rs 2,210 crore), Himachal Pradesh (Rs 1,395 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 2,023 crore), and Jammu and Kashmir (Rs 926 crore),” Naqvi said.
