Gujarat CM drops 90% police cases against Patidars

Ahmedabad : The Gujarat government has withdrawn as many as 90 per cent police cases slapped on Patel community members during the 10-month-old agitation for reservation to Patidars in educational institutions and government jobs, an official statement said on Sunday.

The decision to withdraw most of the cases against Patels was taken at a meeting to reviews the cases on Friday, the statement said.

The cases also include those filed during the August 25, 2015 rally of the community where allegations were raised against for police high-handedness.

As many as 391 of the total 438, or 90 per cent, cases against the Patel community members have been withdrawn, and Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has now asked the state Home Department to bring up for a quick review another 182 cases, according to the statement.

Besides quota, this was also a key demand of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel who has announced revival of the agitation that has gone dormant for two months.
