Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan here on Wednesday ordered the release of 1,010 jail inmates before the Islamic spiritual month of Ramadan which is expected to start on June 6.
The president hoped the released prison inmates will take an opportunity to start a new life and bring stability to their respective families.
Mass pardons are common in the Islamic world ahead of Ramadan, the month of fasting.
In the UAE, the president and the rulers of the seven sheikhdoms have the right to pardon prisoners.
