Association of Indian Muslims of America put up a tailoring center for girls in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM) of Washington DC has begun building a tailoring training center for poor Muslim girls and women in Hyderabad.

The unique Center is located in Basti Nabi Kareem in the Alam Tank area of Hyderabad city. This Center will train poor Muslim women in cutting and sewing export quality garments, shirts, pants, school uniforms and factory uniforms by training them on modern computerized sewing and cutting machines.

These garments are then exported to countries in Middle East, Asia and Europe. AIM is building this center in collaboration with the Hyderabad based Community Institute of Technology. The Hyderabad Association of Washington is also a partner in this project.

The program started in January 2016 with the first batch of 30 girls. The training duration is in two phases of six months each. After that these trained women can find jobs earning about Rs 10,000 or more per month in the garment industry in Hyderabad.

AIM has sent a donation of RS 10 lakh to this Center so far. This money has been used to purchase tailoring machines, hiring teachers, improving the building and other related works.
