New Delhi : Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on Monday said that it will celebrate the second International Yoga Day on Tuesday by organising several yoga sessions to mark the event.
“The first Yoga session of the International Yoga Day will be held at University Sports Complex from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., where over 700 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from school and university sectors of JMI and from other academic institutions will perform yoga under the supervision of highly trained instructors,” JMI said in a press statement.
It added that another session will be held for girls at New Girls Hostel from 7 a.m.-8 a.m.
A similar exercise will be held at Hall of Residence (Boys) campus from 8 a.m.-9 a.m.
JMI has also taken an initiative to bring people from disadvantaged sections of the society living in the neighbourhood on board under the banner of the “Outreach Programme” and a special yoga session has been organised for the underprivileged children at Gymnasium Centre of the University Sports Complex from 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
The Outreach Programme, in collaboration with the Games and Sports Office, JMI, has tied up with NGOs in this regard, the statement said.
Conceived in 2005, the Outreach Programme at Jamia Millia works with the double mandate of reaching out to the community both within the university and outside it, according to the university’s website. It organises programmes and events which try to reach out to the neighbourhood as also to other social and cultural groups in the city.
JMI celebrated the first International Yoga Day on June 21 last year. It will celebrate it this year in the presence of Jamia Millia Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmad and other senior functionaries of the university.
