New Delhi : The Congress on Wednesday termed the NDA government at the Centre as “anti-Dalit”.
“The NDA government is anti-Dalit. A BJP MLA from Maharashtra, Ravindra Chavan, has compared Dalits to pigs and the party has not taken any action against him. Earlier, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh had compared Dalits to dogs,” Congress spokesperson P.L. Punia said while addressing a press conference here.
“Why do they always compare Dalits to animals,” he asked insisting “such comments reflect highly of their anti-Dalit mentality”.
“They may show solidarity with Babasaheb Ambedkar to score political points but these comments reflect their actual mindset,” Punia said.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Schedule Castes (NCSC) has issued a notice to Maharashtra Director General of Police and Police Commissioner of Thane asking what action they have taken against Chavan for his comment.
“We have directed the police to register an FIR against Ravindra Chavan,” said Punia who is also the Chairman of NCSC.
