Woman files harassment case against Odisha MLA

Bhubaneswar : A woman on Tuesday filed a harassment complaint against an Odisha MLA who she claimed was her father-in-law but the Independent legislator dismissed the accusation as “baseless”.

In her complaint at the mahila police station here, Kabita Mahakud said she was subjected to physical and mental torture by MLA Sanatan Mahakud.

Mahakud represents Champua seat in the iron ore belt of Keonjhar district, and is the richest legislator with declared assets of Rs.69.63 crore. He runs a mineral transport company.

Kabita told the media here that she was not only physically and mentally tortured but also intimidated. She also made allegations against her “husband” Pankaj and brother-in-law Dinabandhu Barik.

Kavita alleged that Sanatan Mahakud was forcibly keeping her husband away from her and had got him married a second time.

Kabita said she had a daughter with Pankaj with whom she had a love marriage in Malkangiri district.

Police Commissioner Y.B. Khurania has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

“The allegations against me are baseless. I don’t know the woman. My daughter-in-law is in my house,” the Champua MLA said.
