NGO plans children’s march in support of Earth Hour

New Delhi : For the Earth Hour on Saturday, an NGO for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, has organised a march to spread awareness about the need to save electricity.

Ina Raja Memorial Education Trust (IRMET) is organising the march in Hari Nagar in west Delhi with 150 children to make people aware of the need for conserving energy through an awareness march encouraging people to turn off their lights for the Earth Hour, which will be observed between 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

This year, the eight-year-old trust is seeking active participation of the community to make the event a success.

“We expect local residents to join the procession and march to the beat of drums. These children from fairly impoverished families in some ways become the message they bring to us, a message to live on little, and to waste nothing, a message we all need to imbibe if this planet is to have a future,” Ira Raja, a board trustee of IRMET, told IANS.

The trust enables children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to live fuller lives and to reach their potential to a far greater degree than available social and family structures allow.
